Phylum Echinoderms (Brittle Stars)

Phylum Echinoderms
Brittle Star

The genus species name for the brittle star is Amphipholis Squamata.  There are over 2,000 known species of brittle stars.  Most brittle stars are smaller than 1inch.  Brittle Stars have 5 small arms, a small disk as the body and 5 teeth on the disk.  Like the star fish the brittle star pushes its stomach out of its mouth and digest the prey.  You can find brittle stars on the sea floor.  Brittle Stars are not fish, but are related to sea stars.  Like the giant clam brittle stars vary in color.  http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/invertebrates/echinoderm/Brittlestar.shtml
