Phylum Arthropod (Brown Widow)

Phylum Arthropods
The Brown Widow

The genus species for the brown widow is Latrodectus Geometricas.  The venom of the brown widow is more toxic than the black widow, but it doesn't inject as much venom as the black widow.  One person who was bitten by a brown widow says, "It was like getting hit by a sledgehammer."  Some affects of the venom is severe pain everywhere, swelling, and red bumps around where you were bitten.  The brown widow spider is mostly found in Florida and California.  The hourglass mark on the abdomen of the brown widow is yellow or orange.  The color of the brown widow can be from light tan to a blackish brown.  Brown widows look very simalar to the red widow.    http://www.livestrong.com/article/164808-brown-widow-spider-bite-symptoms/

Phylum Annelid Worms
The Earthworm

There are 2,700 different types of earthworms.  Earthworms have 5 hearts.  Earthworthms do not have legs, eyes, or arms.  An earthworm can only grow so long.  You can find earthworms where there is food, water, and oxygen.  Earthworms tunnel very deep leaving a slime that contains nitrogen to help plants grow.  Earthworms also leave behind castings which is a good fertlizer for crops.  Earthworms are hermaphrodites, they can also regrow their body parts or regenerate them.

Brittle Star

The genus species name for the brittle star is Amphipholis Squamata.  There are over 2,000 known species of brittle stars.  Most brittle stars are smaller than 1inch.  Brittle Stars have 5 small arms, a small disk as the body and 5 teeth on the disk.  Like the star fish the brittle star pushes its stomach out of its mouth and digest the prey.  You can find brittle stars on the sea floor.  Brittle Stars are not fish, but are related to sea stars.  Like the giant clam brittle stars vary in color.  http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/invertebrates/echinoderm/Brittlestar.shtml

Phylum Mollusca (Giant Clam)

Phylum Mollusca
Giant Clams

The giant clam is in the phylum mollusca and the class bivalve.  The giant clam is the biggest organism in the phylum mollusca.  The giant clam can grow up to 4 ft. and weighs about 500 lbs.  Giant Clams live mostly in the South Pacific and Indian Oceans.  A fact about the giant clam is that once it finds a home it sits there for the rest of its life.  The giant clam eats by sucking in water with the prey through the siphons.  Every giant clam has its own different colors, meaning every clam is a different color.http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/invertebrates/giant-clam/

Phylum Roundworm (Pinworm)

Phylum Roundworm
The Pinworm

The pinworms genus is Entorobius.  The pinworm is a parasitic infection found in many places.  This infection is mostly found in kids.  You can get this infection by touching beds, tables, things at school, and at the park.  This happens by when the eggs or larva on the object you touch is transferred into your small intestine which then travel to the large intestine where they travel from there to your small intestine to your rectum where they plant themselves. It takes a month or two before itching in the rectum begins.  After you itch the rectum the pinworm eggs sometimes can be transfered back into the mouth which from there can travel to anywhere in the body.  There is medicine for this.

Phylum Cnidaria (Jellyfish, Coral)
Moon Jellyfish

There are two types of cnidarians: medausa and polyp.  The moon jellyfish is a medusa.  The species name for the moon jellyfish is Aurelia Aurita.  The moon jellyfish swims horizantilly, the moon jelly moves by pulsating its bell on top of the the stingers.  The moon jelly is found near the coast in warm, tropical waters.  They feed mostly on zooplankton.  The moon jellies range in sizes between 5-40 cm. http://marinebio.org/species.asp?id=231
